The ABA Commission on Domestic Violence recognizes the vital role that rising lawyers play in the success of protecting and empowering those affected by domestic violence. In order to encourage and recognize law school students committed to ending domestic violence, the Commission launched an annual law student writing competition in 2004.
Two years ago, VLS student Judith Cutler received second place.

**URGENT PLEASE RESPOND ASAP**
My 5 year old daughter and I are in a Domestic Violence crisis by my daughters father who is a known political figure of Laredo, Texas named Sergio"keko" Martinez. We have gone to several public services and they all refuse to help us. I'm currently in process with the child protective services of laredo, I have also asked for a restraining order but it was neglected. The Distric attorney office told me that there isn't enough evidence because the police department did not present the declarations of my witnesses neither did they write down or mention that my daughter had been physically abused on April 28,2007. They didn't want to check my daughter the day of the confrontation ( April 28,2007 ) because the office stated that it was embarrassing for my daughter to show her body and the office happened to be a woman. The day of the confrontation the police found Attorney/Commissioner of Pct 4 of Webb County Laredo Texas Sergio ''Keko" Martinez threading my daughter by telling her that she was going to regret supporting her mom in calling the police on him. The police office asked him to leave the house when she got there and he opposed to her order, she had to take him by the arm and force him out. Once he was outside of the house he started to scare the officer by telling them that he knows too many political persons in Laredo and that they could possibly loose their jobs. The officer did not arrest him because supposedly there was no evidence of any physical abuse since I Aurora Chapa in the place were i was physically abused I have a surgery and permanent bruises, and the officer said that they couldn't prove if they were recent bruises and she refused to take any pictures. I reported this and more to the Hotline of Domestic Violence and Child Protective Services. I was in a shelter for 5 days and till now i haven't gotten anywhere. This is why I'm writing to ask you for help i don't speak much english my niece has been translating for me if you can answer in spanish i would greatly appreciate it!
ps. my daughter is terrified of her dad and is recently in a psychologist and if they couldn't make justice with my case please do so with my daughters.
